December block from Samantha

This is the beautiful block I received from Samantha for our December swap.  I wanted 'scrappy' and she nailed it!  Thank you Samantha!  I'm sorry my picture doesn't even begin to do this block justice... any hints on photographing blocks will be appreciated!

General Question and Opinions, please.

I hope you don't mind me using 'our' blog as a place to ask my questions.  I've been shopping today and visited a couple of  'chain' fabric stores and one quilt shop.  I find the whole process of fabric shopping to be a little overwhelming.  I was able to pick out the two fabrics I was looking for today, but was very discouraged with finding a collection of coordinating fabrics to start a new project.  I told my husband I think it is easier to shop online, where the fabrics are usually displayed in a somewhat coordinated fashion.  Also, the fat quarter bundles at the quilt shop were oh! so pricey.  I know I can find those cheaper online.  So, my question to you:  where do you buy most of your fabric?  do you have to see it in person before buying?  or do you prefer online shopping?  Also, about batting....do you buy packaged batting or do you buy it off the roll where the clerk has to cut it for you?  Still learning and very curious!

New to block swap

Hi to everyone! I just got signed on here and will be starting with the Feb. block. I love all the work I see you doing and look forward to jumping in and designing 12" blocks this coming year. Nancy.

Block for Sunny

Here is a very fuzzy preview of Sunny's block from Andra.  It should be in the mail in the next day or two.  This is probably the only time I will be ahead of the due date.  :)  Hope you like it, Sunny

For Shannon and Andra

Shannon, I'm so sorry that your December block is a little late.  It's now on it's way to you.

Now that Christmas is over, I'm cleaning off my sewing table, and was able to finish Andra's January block.  This is a simple block, but I had more problems with it than I've every had with any block I've ever made.

Susan Linn asked me to post the following:

Jen--your block will be in the mail today!  I had some last minute Christmas sewing to finish first.  I shopped my stash to make your block.  I hope you like it.

Janet from Canada--while I was in the groove I also made your block and it is going in the mail today too!

Sneak Peek for Michelle from Barbara

Should I apologize for being so quick about this?  I had time, and so here it is.

I'll be mailing it out a little later in the week.

Thursday, December 22, 2011

I sent out emails with swap partner information for January today (Thursday).  I know it's a few days early but with Christmas being the day I would normally send out the info I didn't think anybody would mind.  If you think you were overlooked for the January swap, please contact me.

As we bring in the New Year, please remember to communicate with your swap partner.  We have lost a couple of members this month because of their disappointment in lack of communication and blocks not received.  Let's all try to make a resolution to be considerate of our swap partners.  If you are running a little behind, just drop your partner a quick email and let them know.  If, for some unforeseen reason, you can not make your block, please let both me and your partner know immediately.

I look forward to the coming year being a great success for Block Swap Adventure!

Hugs,
Linda G

Block From Penny!

Here's the block I got from Penny in NC and might I just say....

I adore it!!!

Very very lovely!  I just love that rose material!!

Thanks so much!

Samantha

Sneak Peek for Penny!

I borrowed a sewing machine from my sis in law for a couple of days to get my swap blocks done!  YaY for my sis in law!  Here is a sneak peek for Penny, I hope she loves the block!

It'll probably give it away but when I read Penny's preferance I thought about my Maternal Grandparents.  My Maternal Gram is the one who taught me to sew and make quilts.  This one time I weathered a particularly bad wind storm with them out on their farm and when it was over Gramps went out to check on things and about 5 minutes later he came back in and said "Ma!  The ol' barns all out of whack and off kilter!"  The block I made I'm calling "Off Kilter Barn".  And since she said she likes "old timey"  I actually included a couple of vintage scraps straight from my Grams cedar chest which I inherited.

I hope she loves it, and now I get to go open the one she sent me since I finally got her block done!  YaY!!

To Sunny - Nov. and Dec

Sorry Ladies, I think I got busy and didn't post my November block from Susan McA, and now the December block has arrived.  Pretty soon I'll have to start thinking about how to put my quilt together, and start a new theme.

November block from Susan McA.   When Susan told me all that she had been through in November, I told her to just skip a month and not send me a block, but this little beauty arrived in the mail.
I couldn't get it to photograph very well, so you'll have to take my word for it's beauty.  I love this pattern so much that I actually made a mini quilt of it a few months ago!

Then yesterday my mailbox was overflowing with squishies, and one of the envelopes contained my December block from Shannon.  These colors just make me happy!!

Thank you Susan and Shannon!!

Since I know Pamela has received her block now, I'm posting a picture of it.  Pamela asked for a traditional block in cream and red.  I chose this block called "On the Oregon Trail" in honor of my own home state.

Thank you, Pamela for being my partner this time around.

Blocks For Barbara

Pamela K asked me to post these 2 pictures......

These two blocks were made for Barbara S.  The red one is Pamela's practice one and the bottom one is the 12" block.  These were mailed out yesterday and should be reaching Barbara very soon :)
